Volunteering

Volunteer Teacher/Assistant | Tithe Barn School (Jun 2019 to present)

I currently volunteer at a school in Stockport, helping to run their Code Club (as I did previously before I left for uni in 2014), and helping to teach a class-half a class of year 4s the fundamentals of programming for use in later years, and hopefully Code Club next year.

Club Leader | Code Club (Sep 2012 to Jun 2014)

I was one of the club leaders at code club, where we ran ‘coding for kids’ to teach children aged 9-11 the basics behind coding. In particular I ran a program, where I taught them how to code in Python, completing projects including the design of a basic adventure game, alongside helping kids working in scratch.

Assistant | CoderDojo (Jun 2014 to Sep 2014)

This was a summer position in which I helped give young children a fun, but educational way to learn Python. This was achieved by using a Python module to let the children program various things in Minecraft, using a raspberry pi. Apart from helping with the actual writing of the code, I also assisted with the set-up and day to day running of the club, including but not limited to; setting up the equipment, and helping kids and parents troubleshoot technical issues.

Treasurer | University of Sheffield Rock Society (Sep 2018 to Jul 2019)

I took on this elected role on the Rock society committee in my final year at university. I was in charge of managing the society’s finances, mostly organising payments for our regular festival trip, applying for funding, and sending payments.

Team Captain | SSNGE - DotA 2 Team (Jan 2019 to Present)

During the 2nd semester of 3rd year, I captained the university 2nd DotA 2 team. Organising scrims, trying to get the team together for regular tournament games. We placed much higher than our seeding in the NSE spring tournament (out first tournament together) and hope to carry on, improving together.

General Crew | University of Sheffield TSC (Sep 2019 to Present)

This is a volunteering position I took in order to pursue my interest in sound tech, however I have worked very sporadically for financial reasons. This role was mostly made up of setting up lighting and sound for the regular gigs and club nights at the union. Over Easter of 2019 I completed a weeklong training course to further my knowledge and skills in sound, lighting and video, allowing my to take technician positions in the future.
